Simazine is a selective triazine herbicide. It is used to control broad-leaved weeds and annual grasses in field, berry fruit, nuts, vegetable and ornamental crops, turfgrass, orchards, and vineyards. At higher rates, it is used for nonselective weed control in industrial areas. It is a low-toxic pesticide. It is a high-efficiency, safe, and internally-inducing type of excellent herbicide. It mainly absorbs the drug through the roots of plants and distributes it to various parts of the plant, causing the plants to turn yellow and die.
Simazine is a white or colorless crystalline solid. Mp 226-227 ° C. Insoluble in water, the solubility in methanol is 400ppm, chemically stable, non-corrosive.
Simazine is prepared by reacting cyanuric chloride with ethylamine in the presence of an acid acceptor.
